Maharashtra Budget: Higher Motor Vehicle Tax On CNG, Electric Cars
The Maharashtra government has proposed to increase motor vehicle tax on CNG and electric cars, with effect from April 1.

The Maharashtra government proposed on Monday to increase motor vehicle tax on compressed-natural-gas and electric cars with effect from April 1.

CNG cars will now attract 1% more road tax across slabs. Electric cars priced above Rs 30 lakh will be taxed at 6%, according to the budget .

  • Maha EV Policy 2021 envisaged no road and RTO tax for all EVs.

  • Road tax hike to add Rs 150 crore to state revenue in FY26.

  • More than 2 lakh CNG cars were sold in Maharashtra FY25 so far.

  • In 2024, 15,044 electric cars and SUVs were sold in Maharashtra.
