Dharavi Records 26 New Coronavirus Cases Today, Total Now At 86, Including 9 Deaths

Among the latest to test positive for Covid-19 are a 23-year-old woman and 10 men aged between 28 years and 70 years.

Dharavi recorded 26 new coronavirus cases including one death on Thursday, taking the total tally to 86, as the highly contagious virus spreads rapidly through the cramped lanes of Mumbai’s biggest slum despite a lockdown.

11 cases were recorded in the first half of the day and later 15 new cases including one death were added to the total tally.

Of the 11 new cases, four were recorded from Mukund Nagar, two from Rajiv Nagar, one each from Sai Raj Nagar, Transit Camp, and Ramji Chawl, according to Kiran Dighavkar, assistant commissioner in charge of the G/North Ward in Central Mumbai. “Investigation for high-risk contacts is under progress.”

Another 11 cases were recorded from Muslim Nagar area of Dharavi. And one each from Janata Society, Suryoday Society and Shiv Shakti Nagar, Dighavkar said.

Among the latest to test positive for Covid-19 are six women aged between 23 years and 72 years and 20 men aged between 21 years and 58 years.

“A 58 year old male patient who was the resident of Laxmi Chawl passed away due to COVID-19,” Dighavkar said.

The total number of coronavirus cases in Dharavi, a sprawl of shanties spread over 240 hectares with a population of 8.5 lakh and over 13,000 small businesses, include nine deaths.

Total Cases In Dharavi So Far: 86

  • Dr. Baliga Nagar: Five — A 30-year-old woman, her father and brother are undergoing treatment. Another 55-year-old man tested positive. The area has recorded three deaths.
  • Dharavi Main Road: Two — A 35-year-old doctor and his 29-year-old wife are undergoing treatment.
  • Mukund Nagar Slum: 18 — A 49-year-old man and his 25-year-old son are undergoing treatment. A 58-year-old and a 30-year-old men tested positive on April 9. Five tested positive on April 10 and another five on April 15. Fresh five cases were reported on April 16.
  • 60 Feet Road: Two — A 21-year-old male lab technician is under treatment and one case of a high-risk contact recorded on April 12.
  • Dhanwada Chawl: One — A 35-year-old man tested positive and is under treatment.
  • Muslim Nagar: 18 — A 50-year-old female who tested positive earlier is under treatment. Another 27-year-old man tested positive and three high-risk contacts of a previous case were reported. A 52-year-old man died, while a 27-year-old man tested positive and is under treatment. 11 new positive cases added on April 16
  • Social Nagar: Eight — A 64-year-old man, who had tested positive, died at KEM Hospital. Five of his contacts tested positive. Another two people tested positive on April 16.
  • Janta Society: Eight — A couple (59-year-old man and 49-year-old woman) is undergoing treatment. Two new cases recorded on April 12 and one more the next day. Another 55-year-old male and a 19-year-old female tested positive.
  • Kalyanwadi: Four — A 70-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man died. A 31-year-old female and a man, 21, tested positive.
  • PMGP Colony: One — A male patient tested positive and is undergoing treatment.
  • Murugan Chawl: Two — Two 51-year-old men tested positive.
  • Rajiv Gandhi Nagar Chawl: Four — A 26-year-old male and a 43-year-old woman tested positive. Two fresh cases were reported on April 16.
  • Shastri Nagar Slum: Four — All recorded on April 12.
  • Nehru Chawl: One — A man, 60, died at Sion Hospital.
  • Indira Chawl: One — A 60-year-old man tested positive.
  • Gulmohar Chawl: One — A 34-year-old woman tested positive.
  • Sai Raj Nagar: One — A 37-year-old man tested positive.
  • Transit Camp: One — A man, 70, tested positive.
  • Rajmi Chawl: One — A man, 28, tested positive.
  • Suryoday Society: One-—A woman, 72, tested positive
  • Laxmi Chawl: One-—A 58 year old man died due to the virus
  • Shiv Shakti Nagar-—A man, 24, tested positive
