New cases of Covid-19 in India remained above the 41,000-mark even as the active infection caseload fell slightly.
Several Indian states have now eased local restrictions as cases have declined from its peak in May. Still, worries about the emergence of new variants of Covid-19 remain. A number of tourist hotspots have also started witnessing rise in footfall.
India's Union Home Secretary, on Saturday, held a meeting to review the steps taken by state governments to check the spread of Covid-19 at hill stations and other tourist locations. Covid management and vaccination status for Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal was discussed. The home secretary also sounded caution to these states for ensuring that tourists follow Covid-appropriate behaviour.
