Daily coronavirus infections in India continue to fall at a time when the total tally of confirmed cases is headed towards the 1-crore mark.
India reported 22,065 new cases in a matter of 24 hours -- lowest since July 3 -- taking the total tally over 99 lakh in the world’s second-worst infected nation, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Dec. 15. That includes over 94.2 lakh recoveries and and more than 1.43 lakh deaths.
At over 34,000, daily recoveries continued to surpass new cases for over two weeks now. Active cases have now fallen below the 3.4 lakh mark.

The first Covid-19 vaccine shots were administered by U.S. hospitals Monday, the initial step in a historic drive to immunize millions of people. Deaths in the country passed the grim milestone of 300,000. New York is on a path toward a second full shutdown.
European governments are tightening restrictions. London will be placed under England’s toughest coronavirus restrictions from Wednesday. The Dutch government is expected to lay out extra measures and Ireland is facing the possibility of more curbs next month after an easing in December. Germany is set to enter into hard lockdown Wednesday.
Globally, over 72.6 million cases of coronavirus have been confirmed and 1.6 million have died.
