Coronavirus India Latest Updates: New Cases Tick Up To 35,000, Vaccination Rate Surges

India administered a record 2.5 crore vaccinations on Sept. 17, said the ministry of health and family welfare in a statement.

Much of the surge was in rural areas according to provisional data on the government's CoWin dashboard - with 1.628 crore vaccines administered. The outcome in urban areas by the end of day was 51.93 lakh. CoWin data is provisional and updates with a lag - so far it shows 2.147 crore doses administered on Friday.

Meanwhile, 35,662 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours according to the ministry's Covid bulletin at 10.34 a.m. There have been 33,798 recoveries in the same period.

This takes the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases to 3,34,17,390 of which 3,40,639 are active.

Weekly positivity rate at 2.02% has been less than 3% for the last 85 days, the ministry bulletin noted. Daily positivity rate at 2.46% is also less than 3% for last 19 days.
