Wipro bags R-APDRP project from J&K govt

Country's third largest software exporter Wipro on Wednesday said its arm, Wipro Infotech, has been selected by the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department as the IT implementation agency under the R-APDRP scheme.

The engagement with Wipro will establish automated systems for sustained collection of accurate baseline data for JKPDD as well as enhance adoption of information technology in the areas of energy accounting, Wipro Infotech said in a statement.

The deal was not disclosed.

This will further help the Jammu and Kashmir government reduce AT&C losses, outages and interruptions, it added. Re-structured Accelerated Power Development and Reform Program (R-APDRP), is a flagship programme of the government with a total outlay of over Rs 50,000 crore.

Under the programme, IT companies would help power utilities from concept to commissioning for facilitating reduction of aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses through strengthening and upgradation of the transmission and distribution network.

Wipro will establish a data center, a disaster recovery centre, a customer care centre and implement an integrated solution (comprising applications for energy audit, metering, billing, etc) for rollout across the state.

Wipro will also be responsible for sustaining the solution for a period of five years.

The engagement includes supply, installation and commissioning of the required hardware and establishing a LAN/ MPLS VPN network in the identified towns.

Wipro will undertake Differential Geographical Positioning System (DGPS) based GIS survey and consumer indexing in the identified project areas.
