Vistara Airlines' chief executive officer Phee Teik Yeoh, on Monday called for improving the ‘ease of doing business' and lowering the cost of doing business in India in an interview to BloombergQuint.

Speaking after launching a revamped frequent fliers program in Delhi, Yeoh talked about at possible challenges for the aviation sector if a double-digit rate of Goods and Services Tax (GST) is institutionalised, as is currently being discussed. He said that the service tax payable is currently 5 percent and 8 percent respectively for economy and business class and that Vistara is keenly awaiting a final decision on the GST rate.

Commenting on the need to improve the ‘ease of doing business' and lowering the cost of doing business, Yeoh said that he hoped state governments lower the tax on air turbine fuel (ATF) or jet fuel to boost tourism.
