No-frill carriers SpiceJet and IndiGo have been placed among top 10 cheapest airlines in the world, with Firefly of Malaysia emerging as the cheapest, a survey by a US travel website said.
Firefly took the top spot by offering a one-way flight tickets, including 20 kg of checked-in baggage fees, at an average of 30 euros (Rs 2,430 at 1 euro = 81 rupees).
SpiceJet, which was placed at the second spot, was offering a one-way ticket at an average of 52.24 euros, or Rs 4,231, while the cost of a one-way ticket of IndiGo came to 68.37 euros (Rs 5,538).
SpiceJet was placed at fourth position when basic average fare, without including the 20 kg checked-in baggage fees, was taken into consideration.
IndiGo was placed at the eighth position.
Onur Air of Istanbul (Turkey) secured the third position with average ticket fare being 55.70 euros, while low-budget Malaysian carrier AirAsia, which has recently launched its operation in India, was placed fourth on the list, as per the 'whichairline.com' website, which provides affordable air tickets and airport information worldwide.
Europe's cheapest airline was Istanbul-based Pegasus Airlines, whose average price of ticket was 64.64 euros (Rs 5,235), dashing the popular belief that Ryanair was the cheapest carrier in the continent.
Singapore-based TigerAir, which also operates to India, was placed at the ninth position, while the tenth position was secured by Mexico-based VivaAerobus.
