Domestic low-cost carrier SpiceJet has launched a three-day "super sale" in which tickets will be available at 50 per cent discount. The discounted fares will be applicable on tickets purchased between January 21 and 23, 2014, the company said.
For example, tickets for the Delhi-Goa route can be bought for a discounted price of Rs 3,355 as against the previous price of Rs 5,848, according to SpiceJet's website. Similarly, prices for the lucrative Delhi-Mumbai have been slashed to Rs 2,830 from Rs 4,798 earlier.
The January-March quarter is considered to be a lean season for travel. The company hopes the discounted fares will improve utilization, which has been around the 70 per cent mark in January.
SL Narayanan, chief financial officer of SpiceJet told NDTV that the discounted fares will not impact the carrier's financials because the company has not done across-the-board discounting.
"There are certain sectors, which irrespective of the time of the year, get filled up. So, the amount of discounted tickets on these well-performing sectors will be limited. Besides, if ticket sales go up, we could do a calibration on fares," he added.

The sale is valid for travel up to April 15, 2014 and the discount would be applicable for only those flights where the booking is done at least 30 days prior to travel, SpiceJet added.
The discount will be applicable on the base fare and fuel surcharge, but passengers will have to pay all applicable taxes, the company said.
SpiceJet shares closed 1.72 per cent higher at Rs 17.75 on the BSE today, outperforming the broader Sensex, which ended 0.22 per cent higher at 21,251. (Track stock)
