Ray Dalio Says Smart People Brought Him to Success, Money

(Bloomberg) -- Billionaire Ray Dalio took to Twitter on Tuesday evening to reveal his advice for achieving both success and making money -- find smart friends.

Dalio said he had become “much better educated” by questioning experts and listening to them when they had “thoughtful disagreement.” He was responding to a Twitter user's suggestion that his wealth might have given him an advantage in soliciting the best advice.

The founder of investment management firm Bridgewater Associates frequently takes to social media to share his opinions on life, work and economics. In a September “Ask Me Anything” event on LinkedIn, he discussed dealing with career setbacks (talk it out), why leaders fail (by exaggerating the value of their own opinions) and managing a busy schedule (having a talented team).

In a LinkedIn post earlier this month he titled “The World Has Gone Mad and the System Is Broken,” he spoke about the paradox of free money in the global economy.

“At the same time as money is essentially free for those who have money and creditworthiness, it is essentially unavailable to those who don't have money and creditworthiness, which contributes to the rising wealth, opportunity, and political gaps,” he wrote.
