Rising Northeast Summit: PM Modi Projects $200 Billion Trade Potential For Northeast
The Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025, organised by the central government with support from state governments, follows a series of pre-summit roadshows, roundtables, and bilateral meetings.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025 on Friday, emphasising $200 billion trade potential for Northeast.
The summit, inaugurated by PM Modi, aims to showcase investment opportunities and foster global partnerships for regional development.
In his speech, PM Modi highlighted the exponential growth expected in the Northeast's trade potential. "North East region's trade potential will grow exponentially...I strongly believe that the future of North East Region is bright," he said.
The presence of industry leaders at the summit underscores the region's potential, Modi noted. He praised the diversity of the Northeast, which spans from trade to tradition, textile to tourism. "Northeast's diversity is its biggest strength," he said.
Modi elaborated on the various facets of Northeast, describing it as a hub for tea production, petroleum, sports, skills, eco-tourism, organic products, and energy. "Northeast means tea production and petroleum, sports and skill, eco-tourism. Northeast means new world of organic products. Northeast means the powerhouse of energy, which is why northeast is 'ashtlaxshmi' for us, and with her blessing, northeast is ready for investment and leadership," he explained.
Reflecting on the region's transformation over the past decade, Modi emphasised the grassroots changes that have taken place. "In the last 11 years, northeast's transformation is not just numbers but a grassroots level change," he said.

He highlighted the extensive visits by cabinet ministers to the region, which have helped build trust in developmental policies. "More than 700 times cabinet ministers went to visit northeast, all these ministers experienced northeast and developed people's trust in developmental policies," he added.
Modi also stressed the importance of seamless connectivity for trade growth. "Trade grows in regions with seamless connectivity," he remarked, noting the infrastructure revolution underway in the Northeast.
The Prime Minister outlined significant infrastructure achievements. "In just one decade, 11,000 kilometers of highways were built in northeast," he stated. "16,000 kilometers long pipeline North East Gas Grid has been laid out."
