Manulife Plans to Reopen Four Major Canadian Offices Next Week

Manulife Financial Corp. is reopening four of its major Canadian offices next week, making it the latest of the country's financial firms to bring back in-person work.

The insurer and asset manager's offices in Toronto and Montreal, as well as those in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Waterloo, Ontario, will be available to fully vaccinated employees on a voluntary basis starting March 14, spokeswoman Cheryl Holmes said in an emailed statement.

Major Canadian financial institutions including Bank of Nova Scotia and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce have announced plans to start bringing workers back to the office in the coming weeks as the wave of omicron-variant hospitalizations fades. Ontario, where most financial companies are based, reported 779 Covid-19 hospitalizations as of Tuesday, compared with more than 4,000 at points during January.

“The health and safety of our employees, customers, agents, partners and communities globally has been our priority,” Holmes said in the statement. “All our return-to-office decisions are made in accordance with local health guidance in the communities in which we operate.”

Manulife is known in the U.S. for selling insurance and retirement products through its John Hancock unit.
