One of the most challenging aspects of the Dharavi redevelopment project is the survey of one lakh structures in the slum. New technology has been used to conduct a survey of over 30,000 structures and give unique identification numbers to over 70,000 structures, according to people in the know in the Dharavi Redevelopment Project/Slum Rehabilitation Authority. Drones, Light Detection and Ranging (LiDaR) technology and mobile apps were used to conduct this challenging survey and to evaluate data digitally..This data will now be used to create a 'digital twin' of Dharavi – a virtual replica, that, according to sources, would help analyse data better and help in decision making in this complex project..The master plan is being finalised and the state government will make it public for suggestions and objections once it is prepared..The 2022 Dharavi Redevelopment Project is unique in its sweep and scope. Everyone in Dharavi will receive a house, regardless of eligibility, according to sources in the government. Here are some of the key promises made by the project:.Ground floor structures built on or before Jan 1, 2000, qualify for free in-situ rehabilitation in Dharavi.Those constructed between Jan 1, 2000, and Jan 1, 2011, will receive a house outside Dharavi at a nominal cost of Rs 2.5 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).All upper floor tenement holders till Nov 15, 2022 and those who moved to Dharavi between Jan 1, 2011 and Nov 15, 2022, will be offered rented accommodation with the option of hire-purchase outside Dharavi.All residents of Dharavi will be rehabilitated in modern townships featuring green and open spaces, wide roads, schools, healthcare facilities, community centres, public transport access, and other social infrastructure. The state government will determine and collect the rent and hire-purchase cost.Residents will receive 300-350 sq ft homes, including private toilets, and kitchens. This will end the need for shared facilities.Residents who settled before 2000 will receive homes of 350 sq. ft. which is 17% larger than those offered in other slum rehabilitation projects.Residents of upper-floor tenements too are included, unlike other redevelopment projects. All upper-floor tenement holders in Dharavi up till November 15, 2022, are qualified for rehabilitation on a hire-purchase scheme. Under this scheme, tenement holders will get a 300 sq ft home outside Dharavi, at a nominal rent for 25 years, after which they will gain ownership of the unit. Residents can also make a lump-sum payment at any time within the 25 years’ period to secure the title ownership of the unit.
