In order to establish direct voice communication between loco pilots, controllers, station masters, the railway authorities introduced the mobile train radio communication system across the national transporter's network. According to a recent statement shared by the Railway Ministry, the total amount allocated for the mobile train radio communication system (MRTC) for the financial year 2020-21 is Rs 232.54 crore. The amount for implementing the communication system across the network is completely utilized, so far. The radio communication system is implemented across more than 3,460 route km.
In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that new work for the long-term evolution-based mobile train radio communication system across 34,304 route km is approved at a cost of Rs 6,861 crore.
