Global medical technologies major GE Healthcare will increase its workforce by about 10 per cent in India to 4,400 people by the end of this year as it looks to strengthen research work in the country.
"We will be adding 10 per cent more to our present strength of 4,000 employees in India by the end of this year," GE Healthcare South Asia President and CEO Terri Bresenham told PTI.
This will take the company's manpower strength to 4,400 in the country, she added.
Bresenham said the company has plans to enhance its research and development team of 1,200 people in India.
"Out of these 400, between 150 to 200 people will be in research and development (R&D)," she added.
GE Healthcare is a $17 billion unit of General Electric Company. Worldwide, GE Healthcare employs more than 46,000 people.
When asked about the India revenues, Bresenham said: "Twenty-five per cent of the revenues come from the Indian manufacturing facilities here and 75 per cent comes from the imports".
GE Healthcare's broad range of products and services enables healthcare providers to better diagnose and treat cancer, heart disease, neurological diseases and other conditions earlier, the company said.
GE Healthcare has recently joined hands with Fortis Healthcare to provide care to critically ill patients in small towns in India through an electronic remote monitoring programme, CritiNext.
