The Supreme Court of Bombay was established on May 8, 1824. Four barristers and an Advocate General were sworn in on May 10, 1824 as practitioners of that court. With only these five members, who constituted the Bar of the Supreme Court of Bombay, began the ‘Bombay Bar'.

Bombay Bar Association- A Legacy Of Law, a book commemorating 150 years of the Association, records this and other significant moments of the Association.

The Bombay Bar Association members have excelled in social life, politics and philanthropy in addition to the legal field, says Milind Sathe, president of the association.

TheFounder of the Indian National Congress Pherozeshah Mehta, Father of the NationMahatma Gandhi, Architect of United India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Architectof the Constitution BR Ambedkar, great lawyer and freedom fighter BhulabhaiDesai, and social worker and philosopher KM Munshi are few names that havebuilt the legacy of the Bombay Bar that has left an indelible imprint on themodern history of India
