Nothing Phone 3, expected to be launched in July, will receive five years of Android updates and seven years of security upgrades.
Nothing has been teasing important information about its upcoming device, Nothing Phone 3, ahead of its launch. One of the major details has now emerged regarding a significant software update.
The smartphone, expected to be launched in July, will receive five years of Android updates and seven years of security upgrades. It will be the longest software update cycle offered by the company for its phone.
Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis in a post on X revealed, “Phone (3) will have 5 & 7” software update. It means the phone will receive five years of Android OS updates and seven years of security patches.
8 Gen 3 has a weaker GPU, NPU, connectivity and ISP - and default software support is 4 & 4. Phone (3) will have 5 & 7.

In comparison, the Nothing Phone 2 comes with three years of Android updates and four years of security patches. The Nothing Phone 3a Pro offers three years of Android upgrades and six years of security updates.
According to a Gadgets 360 report, this could be an attempt to compete with brands like Google and Samsung, which offer software updates for much longer periods. Currently, Google offers seven years of Android updates and security patches for the Pixel 8 series. It is the longest duration for which any Android device gets software updates.
Nothing has confirmed the gadget will be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip. Evangelidis has highlighted that it offers better graphics and neural network performance than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 found in the Phone 2. The company has said it also offers better connectivity and image processing.
The Nothing Phone 3 is set to be launched in India and globally on July 1. It will be available for purchase through Flipkart in India.
According to tipster MysteryLupin’s post on X, the phone will be available in two configurations. The 12 GB + 256 GB variant could cost $799 (nearly Rs 69,000), while the device with the 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage may be priced at $899 (about Rs 77,800).
