The highly anticipated launch of the iPhone 17 later this year has Apple fans eagerly awaiting the new features that will set it apart from its predecessor, the iPhone 16. The buzz, however, is the entry-level iPhone 17 will overall sport the same design as the iPhone 16. Bummer? Read on!

In the iPhone 17 series, Apple is also expected to include a slim model, which has been dubbed by some as iPhone 17 Air.

According to MacRumors website, both the new models will sport ProMotion, for a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz, allowing the screen to refresh at a higher rate than traditional displays.

The ProMotion feature has been limited to the iPhone Pro models so far. It first appeared in 2021 on the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Besides smoother scrolling, the feature contributes to longer battery life. For instance, the display uses less power when static content is shown, conserving energy for longer usage. If ProMotion can adjust the refresh rate down to as low as 1Hz, it could mean the way for an always-on display, the report added.

iPhone 17 series includes iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max and all the new models in the series are expected to feature a 24-megapixel front camera. iPhone 16 models had a 12 MP camera, marking an upgrade for fans in the new series. Upgraded camera set-up would delight photo-enthusiasts as the pictures will be able to retain a superior quality even when heavily cropped.

The report also added that Apple could introduce its first custom-designed Wi-Fi chip in the new lineup. This chip will be able to support Wi-Fi 7, which allows for data transmission over the 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz bands simultaneously. This would mean Apple fans would have access to a faster Wi-Fi system and more reliable connectivity.

iPhone 17 will also feature A19 chip, which will be built using TSMC's advanced third-generation 3nm process, known as "N3P”.  Users can expect improved performance and energy efficiency, allowing for faster processing speeds.
