India bounced back from the loss against South Africa in style as they thrashed Zimbabwe in their second ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Super Eights match played in Chennai on Thursday. The Men in Blue complletely outplayed Zimbabwe by 72 runs and kept their semifinal hopes alive and in their on own hands.
Batting first, India scored a monumental 256/4. India's innings was powered by half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma and Hardik Pandya. While Abhishek hammered 55 off 30 balls, Hardik hit 50 off 23 deliveries. There were crucial cameos from the likes of Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma.
Opener Brian Bennett played a fighting knock of 97 not out off 59 balls but he could not help Zimbabwe get close to the target of 257 as they only managed 184/6 in 20 overs.
From Group 1, South Africa have already qualified for the semi-finals after beating West Indies by nine wickets earlier in the day.
With Zimbabwe losing two games in the Super Eights, they are out of the reckoning for a semifinals berth. Now it all boils down to the India-West Indies game to be played on March 1 in Kolkata. This match will be a straight shootout between the two teams on who will reach the semis along with South Africa.
