Chandigarh Imposes Restrictions Amid Rise In Covid-19 Cases
Chandigarh government imposed fresh restrictions in the state amid a rise in Covid-19 cases.
Under the new restrictions, non-essential activities are prohibited between 10 p.m and 5 a.m, ANI reported, citing the Chandigarh administration.
While cinema halls, malls and restaurants are allowed to operate at 50% capacity, educational institutions as well as sports complexes will remain closed.
Public gatherings are now restricted to 50 persons indoors and 100 persons outdoors.
Chandigarh reported 331 fresh Covid-19 cases in the past 24-hours.
West Bengal Reports Over 14,000 New Cases In A Day
West Bengal added 14,022 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. With this the active cases now stand at 33,042 in the state, ANI reported citing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Next 15 days are important, said Banerjee. "We will increase restrictions" if the cases continue to increase. The chief minister is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow.

Kerala confirmed 50 more Omicron cases, of which 45 are from low risk countries and five from high risk countries. With this the Omicron tally in the state now stands at 280, ANI reported citing state health department.
"No cases were reported through contact (tracing)," Kerala Health Department said.
The state recorded 4,649 new Covid-19 cases and reported 17 deaths in the last 24 hours. Active cases now stand at 25,157, Kerala government said in a statement.
Delhi reported 15,097 new Covid-19 cases and six deaths in the last 24 hours, according to a statement by the government.
The positivity rate in the national capital rose to 15.34% from 11.88% on Wednesday. Active cases stand at 31,498.

125 Passengers Of Italy-Amritsar Flight Test Positive
As many as 125 passengers of Air India's Italy-Amritsar flight have tested positive for Covid-19 on arrival at Amritsar airport, VK Seth, Airport Director told ANI.
India continued to add fresh Covid-19 cases at a rapid pace as the Omicron variant spreads.
The nation reported as many as 90,928 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, the most since June 11, according to the Health Ministry’s update at 8 a.m. on Jan. 6. That compares with nearly only 19,206 recoveries during the period.
Fresh cases have jumped more than 56% in a day, as the daily positivity rate spiked to 6.43%.
