Earlier this month, Mumbai civic body officials had said that a woman who had arrived from South Africa in February has been infected with XE variant, but the health ministry has not confirmed it to be so.
Gujarat has reported its first case of XE, a sub-variant of Omicron, after a man from Mumbai tested positive for Covid-19 during his visit to Vadodara, PTI reported citing an official.
As per the results of the person's genome sequencing received on Friday, the person is found to have been infected with the new mutant.
The person was found positive on March 12. The sample was sent for genome sequencing, according to Devesh Patel, Medical Officer of Health, Vadodara Municipal Corporation.
