HUL: Detergent, Tea To Drive Volume Growth, Says IDBI Capital

We have done stock keeping unit level analysis of Hindustan Unilever Ltd.'s soap, detergent and tea portfolio which contributes approximately 60% to total revenue.

We note that -

1. tea and soap category, fast-moving consumer goods companies have taken price hikes driven by inflationary raw material pricing trend

2. in tea portfolio the HUL has been highly conservative in taking price hikes while in soaps it has been aggressive compared to the competition

3. in detergent powder category the company has taken price cuts in line with deflationary raw material pricing trend while Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Health Care Ltd. has taken a price hike.
