(Bloomberg) -- Juan Guaido, the Venezuelan opposition leader whose claim to be interim president has been recognized by 30 countries, says he'd renew diplomatic ties with Israel.
Guaido said in an interview with Israel Hayom newspaper that relations with Israel, which were cut off by former leader Hugo Chavez, are in the process of being stabilized, and that he hopes to exchange ambassadors. He said he is weighing whether Venezuela's embassy should be located in Jerusalem.
Guaido, the leader of the National Assembly, has been locked in a standoff with President Nicolas Maduro since declaring himself interim president in late January. Israel has joined the U.S., Canada, and most countries of Latin America in recognizing Guaido's leadership.
