Philippines May Relax Lockdown in Some Cities After May 15

(Bloomberg) -- President Rodrigo Duterte may relax lockdown measures in some cities in the Philippine capital region after May 15, his spokesman Harry Roque said.

Restrictions could be eased in areas that have contained the spread of the coronavirus and increased their critical care capacity, Roque said in a televised briefing on Thursday.

Duterte has also signed an order that will provide cash and transport to Filipinos who are in Metro Manila, the epicenter of the virus, and plan to return to their provinces. The program aims to decongest the capital region and spread development to the provinces in the long-term, Roque said.
