A third-party data network outage at Mumbai airport on Saturday caused delay in flight operation of multiple airlines including Air India flights.

"A third-party data network outage had impacted check-in systems at Mumbai airport, thereby delaying flight departures of airlines, including Air India." Air India posted on its social media platform X (formerly known as twitter).

The tweet also highlighted that though the systems have been restored, some flights may remain affected for a while as it takes time for the situation normalise.

"The systems have since been restored, however, some of our flights may continue to be affected for some time as the situation normalises progressively." the tweet said.

On Aug 5, the Tata Group owned Air India sent its first legacy Boeing 787 aircraft to the US for a retrofit at the end of July following prior delays. The upgraded aircraft, with new cabins and modern amenities, is now expected to return to service in December instead of October as previously announced, according to people familiar with the matter.

The retrofit exercise comes at a critical time for the airline, which is under mounting pressure to fix recurring in-flight issues of its faulty Boeing jets.
