With the festival season starting in August, metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru are expected to see several dry days this month. Liquor shops and wine stores will remain shut temporarily and bars, pubs and restaurants serving liquor will also face restrictions.
In addition to the prohibition of liquor sales, authorities have also announced traffic advisories on some of these days for the smooth conduct of festivals.
All liquor outlets will remain closed in metro cities, including the national capital, on Aug. 15 for Independence Day.
In Delhi, the administration has declared back-to-back dry days this week. Restrictions on liquor sales will continue on Aug. 16 in view of Janmashtami.
These rules apply across the city to maintain law and order during celebrations. Similar restrictions are expected in other cities as well.
List Of Dry Days In August 2025
According to the Delhi government's excise department, all liquor vends, bars and clubs will remain closed on Independence Day and on Oct. 2, which marks Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary.
Mumbai will also witness multiple dry days this month in view of the upcoming festivals. Apart from Independence Day and Janmashtami, Aug. 27, which marks Ganesh Chaturthi, will also be a dry day.
Additionally, a ban on the sale of liquor will also be imposed on Sept. 6 in Maharashtra, the last day of the Ganpati festival in Maharashtra. While not yet announced, a dry day may also be imposed in the state on Sept. 5, a day ahead of Anant Chaturdashi. Restrictions on liquor sales are generally imposed to maintain law and order during the Ganpati Visarjan processions.
Bengaluru will see two dry days next week, on Aug. 15 for Independence Day and Aug. 16 for Janmashtami. A 48-hour ban on alcohol sales will be enforced across the city, covering bars, restaurants and licensed liquor vendors. Authorities may also announce a dry day on Aug. 27 for Ganesh Chaturthi after reviewing the situation.
