Meanwhile, ahead of the drills on Tuesday, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan is scheduled to review the preparations for the exercise. "The home secretary will review the preparations for civil defence being made across 244 districts,” PTI reported, adding that the meeting will be attended by Chief secretaries and heads of civil defence.
The order comes days after a massive terrorist attack took place in Pahalgam on April 22. At least 26 people, mostly tourists, were targeted by unidentified terrorists while holidaying in Jammu and Kashmir’s scenic valley.
"In the current geo-political scenario, new and complex threats/challenges have emerged, hence, it would be prudent that optimum civil defence preparedness in the states/UTs is maintained at all times," the letter from the Directorate General Fire Service, Civil Defence and Home Guards to the states and Union Territories, said.
Besides civilians and students, civil-defence wardens, volunteers, home guards (active and reservists volunteers), National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS), Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) are expected to participate in the event.
