FPIs Stay Net Sellers For Third Session

Domestic institutional investors stayed net buyers for the 11th straight session.

Foreign portfolio investors remained net sellers of Indian equities on Tuesday for the third straight session, selling up stocks worth Rs 2,853.8 crore, according to the provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

Domestic institutional investors stayed net buyers for the 11th straight session as they bought equities worth Rs 5,908 crore, the data showed.

The FPIs bought equity worth Rs 19,860 crore in May. In April, the overseas investors had net bought shares worth Rs 4,223 crore, according to the National Securities Depository Ltd.'s data.

In March, they had net offloaded equities worth Rs 3,973 crore, which was significantly lower as compared to the net selling of equities worth Rs 34,574 crore in February. This was preceded by net selling of Rs 78,027 crore in January.

In 2025 so far, the FPIs have net sold equities worth over Rs 97,495 crore, the NSDL data showed.

The benchmark equity indices closed lower for the third consecutive session on Tuesday, dragged down by shares of HDFC Bank Ltd. and ICICI Bank Ltd.

The NSE Nifty 50 ended 174.1 points or 0.7% lower at 24,542.5, while the BSE Sensex closed 636.24 points or 0.78% down at 80,737.51. During the day, the Nifty fell 0.87% to trade at 24,502.15 and the Sensex declined 0.98% to trade at 80,575.09 mark.
