Nusli Wadia withdrew his defamation case against Ratan Tata, a week after the Supreme Court asked the parties to sit together and resolve their differences.
Wadia withdrew his petition after Tata made a statement in the top court that he didn't intend to defame the chairman of Bombay Dyeing & Manufacturing Company Ltd.
In 2016, Wadia had filed the defamation suit in a Mumbai court after he was voted out of the boards of three Tata Group companies. That, Wadia had claimed, was for backing Cyrus Mistry after he was removed as executive chairman of Tata Sons.
Tata had then approached the Bombay High Court seeking to set aside the plea. The high court quashed the case against Ratan Tata, following which it landed up at Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court today clarified that Bombay High Court while quashing the case had held that there was no intention to defame Wadia by Ratan Tata. The bench also made note of a statement by Tata and then proceeded to dispose of the case after Wadia accepted the clarification.
