Indian Actress Kriti Sanon has raised concerns over the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly the misuse of personal images online, and stressed the need for laws to keep pace with technological advancements.
"AI scares me. I think it scares a lot of people. But I feel it is a tool, not a destination. The thing is, it is a very sharp tool, and the sharper the tool, the more dangerous it can be." Kriti said.
Speaking at the NDTV World Summit 2026 during a session titled The Making of a Modern Star, Sanon said she supported technological progress but highlighted the importance of protecting individuals' rights as AI becomes more widely used.

"I am all for technology and innovation. But eventually, laws also have to evolve with technology. I don't know if we are prepared for the kind of things AI can really do. When it comes to personal rights, I feel it is very scary. The stuff you see online is damn scary," she added.
The actor also pointed to the growing difficulty of distinguishing real photographs from AI-generated images. As the technology advances, manipulated visuals can become increasingly convincing, raising concerns about how easily a person's image can be misused online.
"There is a very thin line between what a real picture looks like and what an AI-created picture looks like. I feel we are not really prepared for what AI can become, and there need to be certain laws in place," she said.
Sanon also highlighted the lack of clear reporting options on social media platforms for people whose images have been misused through AI. The absence of straightforward ways to report such content can make it difficult for individuals to seek action when their images are manipulated or used without their consent.
Citing Instagram as an example, she "Even on Instagram, to be honest, if I want to report something, there is no option that says, 'This is an AI-generated image of me, and hence it should be reported and removed.' So, we are still not evolving as fast as technology is."

Her remarks come amid growing concerns about the impact of AI on privacy, consent and control over personal images. While the technology is opening up new possibilities, its misuse has raised questions about the safeguards needed to protect people online.
Sanon's comments underline the need for laws and platform policies to evolve alongside AI, ensuring that technological progress is accompanied by stronger protections for individual rights.
