Vijay Deverakonda has opened up about his relationship with Rashmika Mandanna and how their bond influenced his perspective on love and marriage.
Vijay Deverakonda On His Views About Love
During their joint appearance on Koffee With Karan Season 9, Vijay spoke to Karan Johar about why he once struggled to believe in love. The actor said his focus was largely on building his career, earning money and achieving personal growth, leaving little room for relationships.
Looking back, he admitted that his earlier views were immature. “If you look back at my interviews, there I talk about love very almost with a sense of disrespect and disbelief, like 'I don't believe in this concept', which was immature of me because I've been blessed with so much beautiful love. I'm lucky that way,” he said.

Speaking about Rashmika, Vijay recalled how his feelings for her developed into something deeper over time.
“At some point, by then I was very fond of her. Fondness turned into a sort of dependency. I was like, I need her. I need her around me because my day needs better, my meals feel better when we are sharing them. I sleep incredibly well when she's with me. So I was like, I just need you. And then I realised that I want to be married to this woman,” Vijay said.

Why Vijay Took Time To Say Yes To Marriage
Vijay revealed that he did not want to make such an important decision based simply on a strong emotional moment. He wanted to understand how their bond would hold up through different situations and phases of life.
“I think marriage is a really important decision. I know that I put the relationship through every obstacle there is to see it survive. I'm that kind of guy. I was testing myself. I was testing the relationship,” he said.
The actor also considered how their relationship might evolve amid career pressure, emotional struggles and periods when one of them might want to step away from acting.
“I was like, if through all of it, marriage still feels so important, then we should do it,” he added.
Vijay And Rashmika's Love Story
Vijay and Rashmika first worked together in the 2018 Telugu film Geetha Govindam and reunited for Dear Comrade in 2019. Their chemistry sparked relationship rumours, although the two generally kept their personal lives away from the spotlight.
They eventually got married on February 26, 2026, in Udaipur. The wedding ceremonies reflected both their Telugu and Kodava traditions.
