PM Modi addressed the nation in the evening after the results were announced. He spoke about the positive impact of several initiatives taken during his tenure and said his government would strive to make India the third-largest economy in the world.
During his speech from the party’s central office, he said this was the first time after 1962 that a government had completed two successive terms and was marking a third victory. He said a "new history" had been created after almost six decades.
