The Ministry of Commerce is set to hold a meeting with exporters on Wednesday to assess the impact of US President Donald Trump's tariffs on Indian shipments, according to people aware of the matter.

The meeting will be chaired by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. The ministry sponsors 14 councils, including the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council, Engineering Exports Promotion Council and Council for Leather Exports. All are expected to be in attendance on Wednesday.

The government will take feedback and suggestions on the reciprocal-tariff impact from exporters, and also on the ongoing negotiations with the US for a bilateral trade agreement, they said on Monday on the condition of anonymity.

Exporters are feeling the heat after Trump announced sweeping reciprocal tariffs on trading partners. The government is also working on implementing incentives worth Rs 2,250 crore for exporters to address declining outbound shipments. It is expediting the rollout of budget incentives aimed at bolstering export sectors.
