BSE Sensex and Nifty turned flat in noon trade, weighed by a big loss in cigarette maker ITC and some selling pressure in auto stocks.
The Sensex was down 15 points at 29,345 while Nifty was almost flat at 8,909. At day's high, the Sensex had surged over 200 points to 29,576 while Nifty came close to its all-time highs when it hit 8,972.
Cigarette maker ITC fell over 4 per cent, extending its decline after the excise duty was hiked on cigarettes. On Saturday, ITC fell over 8 per cent.
