The governmenton Friday liberalised the export of special chemicals, organisms, materials, equipment and technologies, such as aerospace systems and toxic chemicals, from Domestic Tariff Areas to Special Economic Zones.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) notified that no export permission is required for supply of SCOMET (special chemicals, organisms, materials, equipment and technologies) items from Domestic Tariff Areas (DTA) to Special Economic Zones (SEZ).

"No export permission is required for supply of SCOMET items from DTA to SEZ," the notification said.

However, all supplies of SCOMET items from DTAs to SEZs will be reported to the Development Commissioner of the respective SEZ by the supplier within one week of being effected, it added.

Furthermore, the notification said SCOMET items exported outside the country, both from SEZs and DTAs, including Export Oriented Units (EOUs), will require permission.

Of the 148 operational SEZs in the country, only one is operating in the aerospace area, namely the Andhra-based APIIC Ltd SEZ, which is also focused on precision engineering.
