Manipur became a coronavirus-free state on Saturday as three active Covid-19 patients recovered from the disease, PTI reported, citing a health department official.

The active case count hit zero for the first time in the last 26 months, PTI also reported, citing Health Services Director Dr. K Rajo Singh.

The total number of coronavirus infections in the world have exceeded 52.68 crore with over 62.98 lakh people losing their lives to the Covid-19 disease.

However, with the biggest vaccination campaign underway, more than 1220 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered throughout the world, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

The vaccination data also showed that roughly 6.12 crore doses are being administered throughout the globe on a daily basis.

India's active cases dropped for the 13th straight day, as recoveries continued to outpace new infections.

The country reported 2,323 new infections and 25 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to an update from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at 8 a.m. on May 21.

One-day recoveries stood at 2,346.

It is to note that only Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala have re-imposed masking mandates. The steady rise in Covid-19 cases throughout the country as compared to mid-April numbers has not yet promoted a re-imposition of masks in the other regions of India.
