The domestic equity markets rose for third straight day on the back of buying interest in banking, auto and fast moving consumer goods shares. The Sensex advanced as much as 421 points to hit intraday high of 38,635.19 and the Nifty 50 index climbed as much as 121 points to hit an intraday high of 11,462. HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Maruti Suzuki, ICICI Bank and Reliance Industries were among the biggest contributors towards gain in the Sensex. These shares collectively contributed over 200 points to the gain in the Sensex. With today's gain, Sensex has advanced 1.65 per cent or 625 points and Nifty has climbed 1.72 per cent or 194 points in the last three trading sessions.
