In a bid to secure top position in the sports utility vehicle segment, Maruti Suzuki India on Thursday unveiled two new products -- Jimny and Fronx -- in the country. Unveiling the products at the Auto Expo 2023, Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said the company's medium-term goal has been to get back 50% market share and secure the number one position in the SUV segment. Takeuchi noted that Fronx comes with a new one-litre Turbo Boosterjet Direct Injection engine.

Maruti Suzuki Unveils Jimny, Fronx

In a bid to secure top position in the sports utility vehicle segment, Maruti Suzuki India on Thursday unveiled two new products -- Jimny and Fronx -- in the country.

Unveiling the products at the Auto Expo 2023, Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said the company's medium-term goal has been to get back 50% market share and secure the number one position in the SUV segment.

Jimny is a highly anticipated vehicle in India, a natural successor to Gypsy. Jimny was launched in 1970 in global markets but the prevailing 3-door vehicle in international markets has been upgraded to a bigger 5-door variant for India.

Fronx comes with a new one-litre Turbo Boosterjet Direct Injection engine.

Electric Vehicles Steal The Limelight

Electric vehicles hogged the limelight on the first day of India's flagship motor show Auto Expo 2023 with the likes of Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia, Tata Motors and MG Motor showcasing their futuristic products, while also committing to invest in sustainable mobility.

The company's Indian arm Maruti Suzuki India is among the major manufacturers participating at the expo, in which some major manufacturers such as Mahindra & Mahindra, Skoda, Volkswagen and Nissan along with luxury car makers like Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi are not participating.

Tata Motors Sees EVs To Be 50% Of Sales In 10 Years

Transition to electric mobility in India will happen much faster and the Tata Group will make significant investments in the sector to develop a range of products, Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran said.

He said that Tata Motors has a number of products lined up in order to cater to the evolving customer needs. "EV contribution in our portfolio is likely to increase to 25% in five years and reach 50% by 2030," Chandra said.

In the passenger vehicle space, the auto major unveiled Sierra.EV, all-wheel drive electric SUV Harrier.EV, AVINYA concept, a pure electric vehicle and ICE version of the Concept CURVV.

VE Commercial Vehicles Unveils Intercity Electric Bus

VE Commercial Vehicles unveiled a range of vehicles, including an intercity electric bus that can travel up to 500 kilometers with a mix of depot and 30-40 minute opportunity charging during a journey.

The company also showcased prototype Eicher Hydrogen Fuel Cell Truck and Hydrogen ICE technology engine.
