Amul has increased prices of its milk across India by Rs 2 a litre from March 1 as India's largest dairy products maker looks to offset rising costs.

“Considering the rise in input costs, our member unions have also increased the price given to farmers in the range of Rs 35 and Rs 40 per kg of fat, which is more than 5% over the previous year,” a statement from the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd., the owner of Amul brand, said in a statement.

The hike translates into a 4% increase in the maximum retail price, which is lower than the average food inflation, the statement said.

In Ahmedabad and Saurashtra markets of Gujarat, the prices of 500ml of milk will be as follows:

  • Amul Gold: Rs 30

  • Amul Taaza: Rs 24

  • Amul Shakti: Rs 27

Amul's policy focuses on passing on almost 80 paise of every rupee paid for milk and milk products by consumers to its producers.

The milk to cheese brand said the hike will not only helping sustain remunerative milk prices to producers, but will also also encourage more production.

The federation last raised prices in July 2021 by Rs 2 a litre.
