'Done More Damage': Trump Reshares Anti-India Rant Over Birthright Citizenship As Approval Rating Dips

US President Donald Trump on Thursday shared a post which referred to India and China as 'hellholes' as the Supreme Court signalled it was likely to strike down his executive order ending automatic birthright citizenship for children of immigrants.

The post, originally written by radio host Michael Savage and reshared by Trump on Truth Social, attacked immigrants from both countries in blunt terms.

It claimed that a baby born in the US becomes an instant citizen "and then they bring the entire family in from China or India or some other hellhole on the planet."

It went further, describing Indian immigrants in the tech industry as "gangsters with laptops" who have "done more damage to this nation than all the mafia families put together."

On China, the post was even more pointed. "Our nation is being overrun with Chinese coming here just to drop a baby on our shores to then bring in the entire family," it read.

"American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Attorney Wang is pushing to destroy our national identity, turn us into a colony of China, but it's not limited to China, it's also India." the letter added.

Cecillia Wang is the lawyer who is arguing before the Supreme Court for birthright citizenship and has spent much of her career defending immigrants' rights in America. She is herself a birthright citizen, born in Oregon to parents from Taiwan on student visas.

The post came weeks after Trump made history on April 1 by becoming the first sitting president to attend Supreme Court oral arguments.

He had come to watch his solicitor general defend his January 2025 executive order, which ended birthright citizenship for children born to parents who were neither citizens nor lawful permanent residents.

Trump left the courtroom midway and immediately posted on Truth Social that America was "the only Country in the World stupid enough to allow 'Birthright' Citizenship".

Every federal court that had previously considered the order struck it down.

The Supreme Court appeared likely to do the same. Chief Justice John Roberts, responding to the government's argument, said that "we're in a new world" since the 14th Amendment was passed, shot back: "It's the same Constitution." Conservative justices Amy Coney Barrett and Neil Gorsuch also reportedly  questioned Trump's central arguments.

Speaking about the upcoming ruling, Trump said, “If they rule against our Country on Birthright Citizenship, which they probably will, it will cost America massive amounts of money but, more importantly, it will cost America its DIGNITY!”

A ruling is expected by early summer.
