Chinese President Xi Jinping told US President Donald Trump that differences over Taiwan could result in clahses or conflict between Beijing and Washington, PTI reported citing Chinese state media.
During a bilateral meeting between the two leaders of world's largest economies, Xi reportedly told that if Taiwan is handled well, US-China relations “will enjoy overall stability." If not, risks of “clashes and even conflicts" may arise between the two countries, putting the entire relationship in great jeopardy,” Xi said.
Speaking on discussions with Jinping, Tump said, “great,” and did not answer reporters question on discussions about Taiwan.
On Wednesday, Trump landed in Beijing for a three visit to China , marking his first since 2017 to hold talks with Xi on a host of issues, including Iran war, trade, technology and Taiwan. The visit could reshape relations between the world's two largest economies for years to come.
"Welcome back to China after 9 years. The whole world is watching our meeting. Currently, a transformation not seen in a century is accelerating across the globe, and the international situation is fluid and turbulent. The world has come to a new crossroads. Can China and the United States overcome the Thucydides trap and create a new paradigm of major country relations?," said Xi Jinping during the bilateral meeting.
