Grand Theft Auto 6 To Launch In May 2026, Confirms Rockstar Games

Rockstar Games has extended an apology to the fans for delaying the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, but stated that this was needed to 'deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve'.

Grand Theft Auto VI, one of the most loved video games worldwide, will not be launched this year.

Now, the game will be released on May 26, 2026, Rockstar Games said in a in a post on X.

Announced way back in December 2023, the potential successor of Grand Theft Auto V was earlier slated for a fall 2025 release. The rollout date was earlier confirmed by Rockstar's parent brand, Take-Two Interactive.

"Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026. We are very sorry that this is later than you expected," read an official statement from the video game company.

It stated that "interest and excitement" that surrounds the highly-anticipated game was "truly humbling" and thanked all the GTA fans for their support as well as patience as the team worked towards finishing Grand Theft Auto VI.

The company said that it aims to exceed the expectations of fans whenever it plans to release a new game, stating that GTA 6 is "no exception". 

"We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve," it added.

Grand Theft Auto VI: Key Expectations

Released more than a decade ago in 2013, Grand Theft Auto V proved to be a major game changer in the iconic GTA series as it went on to sell over 200 million copies worldwide, placing it among the best-selling video games of all time.

As per reports, the upcoming game could feature dual protagonists, which includes the first-ever female lead of the franchise. It can have the backdrop of an open world that could be based on modern-day Florida.

Leonida, the fictional state in the game, will have Vice City as well as other scenic locales like towns and beaches.

Earlier, rumours even suggested that Grand Theft Auto VI can have the largest map in a GTA game to date, featuring a wide variety of topographies and providing a unique, dynamic feel to the gamers.
