Cricket Australia (CA) is mulling over the idea of holding the opening match of the next season's Big Bash League (BBL) in India. According to a SEN Cricket report, two administrators from CA travelled to India to explore this opportunity. CA is interested to have this match at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.
The report said that the eight clubs that play in the BBL are aware about the development. Of the eight teams, Perth Scorchers could be one of the teams to feature in this game considering the limited time difference between Perth and India.
CA has taken inspiration from Rugby League Las Vegas event. The Rugby League Las Vegas is an annual event which sees rugby games played in Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium. The cricket board is also considering to have a BBL match on Christmas Day.
BBL is Australia's prmier T20 league and has been in existence since the 2011-12 season. Perth Scorchers, with six titles, are the league's most successful team. They are also the defending champions.
Cricket Australia is considering playing the first game of next season's @BBL in India.

Disappointment for Australia
Meanwhile, Australia faced a huge setback in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 as they failed to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the tournament. This happened after the Ireland-Zimbabwe game in Pallekele had to be abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain.
The Mitchell Marsh-led side suffered shock defeats against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, which meant they needed Ireland to beat Zimbabwe to have any chance to progress further in the competition. Australia have only managed to beat Ireland so far. Their final is against Oman on Feb. 20.
