Congress Will Form Government, Rahul Will Be PM, Says Hardik Patel
Patidaar leader-turned-Congressman Hardik Patel is confident his new party will form the next government and Congress President Rahul Gandhi will be prime minister.
“He (Rahul) is honest and doesn't lie or make false promises,” Patel said in a video interview with BloombergQuint from Ahmedabad.
A doctor will always wish his son becomes a good doctor. Similarly, a person belonging to the family of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Pandit Nehru will definitely do good.Hardik Patel, Congress Leader
Patel shot to fame in 2017 during a state-wide protest in Gujarat by the influential Patidar community demanding reservations in government jobs and educational institutions. At the time of Gujarat state elections in 2017, he was too young to contest. But Patel claims he ensured 17 MLAs supported by him made it to the assembly.
Now 25, Patel can officially contest the Lok Sabha elections, but a conviction in a rioting case in connection with the quota agitation has left him disqualified. A court appeal to quash the conviction is pending. The Congress is betting on Patel to increase its appeal in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state, which has been a BJP bastion for decades. The BJP won all 26 parliamentary seats from Gujarat in the last Lok Sabha election.
