(Bloomberg) -- Zambian President Edgar Lungu named Lilian Suyuni as Director of Public Prosecution to replace Mutembo Nchito, who has been removed from office after the recommendation of a tribunal.
Suyuni's appointment is subject to approval by lawmakers, the nation's presidency said in an e-mailed statement late Tuesday.
Lungu is one of nine candidates vying for the presidency of Africa's second-biggest copper producer in Thursday's vote. Violence and intimidation are threatening the credibility of Zambia's presidential elections and the nation's reputation as one of Africa's most stable democracies.
