US stock futures fell before the opening bell on Monday, August 24 after a losing week in the Wall Street as higher Treasury yields and US-Iran tensions continued to weigh on markets.

Nasdaq 100 declined 0.53% to $29,233, S&P 500 slid 0.14% to $7,680.5, while Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 0.03% to $53,334.

Stock futures were under pressure against the backdrop of several global cues, including negative sentiment over US Treasury yields and escalating US-Iran tensions.

Here are three reasons why stock futures are down today -

US Treasury Yields

US 30-year Treasury yields climbed above 5.3% last week, reaching their highest level in nearly two decades, while bond yields in Japan, France and Germany also rose to multi-year highs, impacting investor sentiment.

US-Iran Tensions

Investor sentiment was impact amid expectations that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will announce latest set of economic sanctions against Iran. Bessent will announce plans to more effectively isolate Tehran on Monday, adding on already elaborate sanctions that have been in place for decades. The move is likely to impact some of Iran's largest trading partners, including China, Turkey and India, Bloomberg News reported. Last week, the United Arab Emirates said it had cut all economic ties with Iran, as US Gulf allies give Washington's strategy a boost.

Slump In Chip Stocks

US-listed semiconductor stocks edged lower in premarket trading today ahead of Nvidia and Marvell Technology earnings Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. The results will come after Bloomberg News reported that Nvidia will hike prices for Vera Rubin and Blackwell chips by more than 15%.
