US Stock Markets Today: Nasdaq Opens Higher, Dow Jones Slips 0.5%

Two of the three main Wall Street indices opened in the green on Tuesday, with the broader index, S&P 500, up marginally by 0.06% at 6,056.70 points and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rising 0.3% to 19,795.77 points.

The 30-stock Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.54% at the opening bell to 44,401.93.

Stocks like McDonald's Corp. were down 1.80%, Coca-Cola Co. fell 0.94%, and Caterpillar Inc. dipped 2.60%. Among the companies that rose in early trade were Boeing Co., up 2.81%, and Nvidia Corp., which jumped 2.81%.

Among the 11 S&P 500 sectoral indices, two were trading higher, whereas nine lagged against the previous day's close. The gains were led by the real estate and healthcare sectors, whereas the communication services, financials, and utilities sectors were among the drags.

As the US market opened, spot gold was higher 1.12% at $2,689.99, and crude oil traded flat.

The Bloomberg Dollar Index rose 0.1%, with the British pound changing slightly to $1.2753 while the Japanese yen fell 0.4% to 151.74 per dollar.

Bitcoin, the largest traded cryptocurrency, rose 0.5% to $97,430.5.
