Hello and welcome to our live coverage on stock markets.

The Nifty 50 fell 44.65 points, or 0.19%, to 24,035.75 at the opening bell. The Sensex declined 89.89 points, or 0.12%, to 76,867.38.

Investors will track oil prices, geopolitical developments and global market cues through the session. India's stronger-than-expected GDP growth of 7.8% in the first quarter of FY27 will also remain in focus.

Asian Markets Lower

Asian equities traded lower on Tuesday. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 0.93%, South Korea's Kospi declined 0.58% and Japan's Nikkei 225 slipped 0.39%.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 dropped 0.35%, while the Shanghai Composite was down 0.17%.

The declines followed renewed military exchanges between the US and Iran after a period of relative calm. US forces struck an island in the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran responded with attacks targeting the United Arab Emirates and Jordan.

Oil Prices Rise

Brent crude climbed above $91 a barrel in early Asian trading as the latest escalation raised concerns about energy supplies and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The rise in oil prices adds to the factors investors are monitoring after global equities posted gains in August.

GDP Growth at 7.8%

India's real GDP expanded 7.8% in the first quarter of FY27, exceeding the market estimate of 7.3%. Growth was in line with the revised 7.8% recorded in the previous quarter.

Manufacturing grew 9.2%, while financial, real estate and professional services expanded 12.1%. Trade, hotels, transport, communication and services-related activities grew 8.5%.

Power, gas, water supply and other utilities increased 8.9%, while construction grew 7.7%. Public administration, defence and other services expanded 7.5%.

Agriculture grew 3.6%, while mining contracted 2.4%.

Sensex, Nifty End Lower

The BSE Sensex ended Monday at 76,597.27, down 307.24 points, or 0.40%. The Nifty50 closed at 24,080.40, falling 95.25 points, or 0.39%.

Metal and IT stocks weighed on the benchmarks. The Nifty Metal index, along with IT, PSU Bank, Realty and Media, declined by up to 3%. Sun Pharma and ICICI Bank were among the top gainers on the BSE.

Broader markets ended mixed. The Nifty SmallCap 100 fell 0.74%, while the Nifty MidCap 100 gained 0.24%.

Wall Street Cues

US stock futures were little changed after Wall Street ended Monday lower, although the main benchmarks still recorded gains in August.
