Bond Inflows to Start 2018 Show That Reaching for Yield Lives On

(Bloomberg) -- New year, same appetite for U.S. fixed income: Investors gorged on duration and higher-beta securities in their first meal of the year.

The iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond exchange-traded fund (ticker TLT), iShares J.P Morgan USD Emerging Markets Bond ETF (ticker EMB), and SPDR Bloomberg Barclays High Yield Bond ETF (ticker JNK) attracted more than $200 million each during the first trading session of 2018. The three topped the flows leaderboard for bond products on Tuesday.

After a year that saw investors swap credit risk for duration risk whenever risk aversion arose, it's clear that reaching for yield is alive and well in 2018.
