Delhi gave a foggy welcome to the New Year with air quality in parts of the national capital reaching hazardous levels.
Air quality at Delhi's Shadipur stood at 332, while that at Siri Fort stood at 388 - both in the 'Hazardous' range, according to news agency ANI. The air in ITO, in central Delhi, showed an 'unhealthy' reading of 182. Dwarka showed a 'very unhealthy' reading at 257 as per the Air Quality Index.

Flights at the Indira Gandhi International Airport were delayed in the morning due to low visibility. Operations were later suspended due to low visibility of less than 50 metres, ANI reported. However, flights resumed later in the day.
The railways was affected too with 56 trains running delayed, 20 rescheduled and 15 cancelled, as of 7:30 a.m.

The national capital and neighbouring states has already seen a winter shrouded in smog with local and central governments taking multiple steps to reduce the pollutants in the air.
The neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh also woke up to a dense fog.
